Germany’s Easter Festival of Baden-Baden announced that the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra led by Klaus Makela and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra led by Joanna Marwitz will be the resident orchestras for three years beginning in 2026.

The Berlin Philharmonic, which has been the resident orchestra since 2013, will step down at the end of 2025. The Berlin Philharmonic will return to the Salzburg Easter Festival, where it once performed, starting in 2026.

Baden-Baden has an opera each year, with Richard Strauss’ “Elektra” scheduled for 2024; operas for 2025 and 2026 have not been announced, but Marwitz and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra will be in the pit beginning in 2026.
