Around the Music Festival

The Salzburger Festspiele in Austria has announced its 2021 performance lineup. According to it, the 2021 music festival will be held from July 17th to August 31st.

The 2020 music festival, which celebrated its 100th anniversary, was held on a smaller scale due to the pandemic of the new coronavirus. Many of the performances scheduled for 2020 will slide in 2021.

According to the announcement, the 2021 music festival will have the theme of “peace” and many programs such as Britain’s “War Requiem” will be organized. The two composers in the spotlight are Johann Sebastian Bach and Morton Feldman (1926-1987).

There are eight operas, including new productions, revivals, and concert formats. In the new production, attention is focused on “Don Giovanni” conducted by Teodor Currentzis, directed by Romeo Castelucci, scheduled for 2020, and “Tosca” starring Anna Netrebko will be a hot topic in the revivals.

As usual, there are a variety of artists such as recitals. Martha Argerich, Renaud Capuçon, Grigory Sokolov, Arkadij Volodos, Schiff András, Evgeny Kissin, Maurizio Pollini, Daniil Trifonov, Mitsuko Uchida, Anne-Sophie Mutter and others will listen to the fulfillment.

Guest orchestras include the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Southwestern German Radio Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre des Champs-Élysées, musicAeterna, Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, Gustav Mahler Jugent Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.
