The Oregon Symphony in the United States has laid off an orchestra members and conductors. This is the second layoff in the US orchestra following the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.
A total of 97 people were laid off. There are 76 musicians, 19 secretaries and two conductors. Their payroll will stop and only health care coverage can continue.
The Oregon Symphony was founded in 1896 and is headquartered in Portland, Oregon. It has the longest orchestra history in the western United States.
