SAN FRANCISCO 〓 EunSun Kim will be appointed as the next music director of the San Francisco Opera

South Korean conductor EunSun Kim will be appointed as the next music director of the San Francisco Opera. She will take office from the 2021/2022 season for a term of five years. The music director’s post is vacant after Nicola Luisotti resigned in 2018. She made her debut in San Francisco Opera in June this year under the “Rusalka”.

Kim is 39 years old born in Seoul. After studying composition at Yonsei University, she studied conducting at Stuttgart University of Music and Theater.

She won the Jesús López Cobos International Conductor Competition in 2008. For three years from 2008, She was López Cobos’s assistant at Teatro Real in Madrid. In 2012, she made her professional debut at the Frankfurt Opera House, conducting “La Boheme”. Later, she studied under Daniel Barenboim and Kirill Petrenko.
