COLOGNE 〓 WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln has announced that Marie Jacquot as its next principal conductor

The WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln has announced the appointment of French female conductor Marie Jacquot as its next principal conductor. She is succeeding Cristian Macelaru. Her tenure will last four seasons, beginning with the 2026/2027 season. Macelaru will transition to the post of artistic partner for the 2025/2026 season.

Jacquot was born in Paris and is 33 years old. She is a well-known tennis player, having played in the French Open. After studying trombone, she studied conducting at the University of Music and Theater in Vienna and at the Franz Liszt University of Music in Weimar, Germany.

After serving as assistant to General Music Director Kirill Petrenko at the Bavarian State Opera, she was First Conductor of the Rhine Deutsche Oper beginning in the 2019/2020 season; Principal Guest Conductor of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra beginning in the 2023/2024 season. From the 2024/2025 season, she will assume the position of Principal Conductor of the Royal Danish Opera.
