The Solti Foundation US has announced that it has decided the 2019 “Georg Solti Conductor Award” to be Yaniv Dinur. Winners will have the opportunity to lead the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Chicago Lyric Opera, as well as $ 30,000 in prize money. Dinur is 38 years old, born in Jerusalem, Israel. After studying Conducting from Mendi Rodan at the Jerusalem Music and Dance Academy, he studied under Kenneth Kiesler at the University of Michigan and received a Ph.D. Currently a deputy conductor of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra.
The Foundation was established in 2000 to honor the legendary conductor Georg Solti (1912-1997). A program to support talented young American leaders was launched in 2004, and an “Award” was created in 2007. Solti was originally from Hungary and later exiled to English, and in the United States he has long been music director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The “Awards” started every other year, but since 2013 we have selected the winners each year.
