Herbert Blomstedt, the longest-serving conductor in the world, will return to the stage this weekend to conduct the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. He has been inactive and recuperating since he was injured in a fall last December.
Blomstedt, 96, was born in Springfield, Massachusetts. His parents are Swedish. He will conduct the concerts on the 4th and 5th, and the program will be Schubert’s Symphonies No. 2 and No. 4, “Tragic.
