SALZBURG 〓 Nikolaus Bachler will be appointed as the Artistic director of the Easter festival

A number of German media reported that Nikolaus Bachler, the president of the Bavarian State Opera, will be appointed as the artistic director of the Festival from 2020. Current Peter Ruzicka announced in May that he will retire in 2020, whose term of office expires. Bachler has led the opera from 2008/09 season, but it is decided to retire in the 2020/21 season.

Bachler was born in 1951, Fohnsdorf, Austria. He studied theater play at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and belonged to the Salzburg State Theater. After that he served as artistic director of the Schiller Theater in Berlin (1987-1990), returned to Vienna, assumed the artistic director of Wiener Festwochen (1991-1996). After that he has served as President of Volksoper (1996-1999), President of Burg Theater (1999-2009).
