LOS ANGELES 〓 Los Angeles Philharmonic announces cancellation of 2020/2021 season due to spread of new coronavirus

2020/10/21

The Los Angeles Philharmonic has announced that it will cancel all scheduled concerts at its hometown Walt Disney Concert Hall until June 9, 2021. The decision was made in response to the continued spread of the new coronavirus infection.

In the US classical music world, the Metropolitan Opera, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra have already announced cancellations for the 2020/2021 season. All groups are in a critical situation where they are forced to cancel the entire season for the first time since their founding.

According to data from Johns Hopkins University in the United States, the number of infected people in the United States exceeded 8 million as of the 18th. The death toll was 218,000.

The number of infected people per day in the United States peaked in late July and began to decline, but in October it began to rise again and has recently been in the 50,000 to 60,000 range.
