The Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe in Germany has announced the appointment of Kerem Hasan as its next General Music Director. He will succeed Georg Fritzsch—who has held the position since 2020—starting in the 2027/2028 season.
Hasan is a 34-year-old of Cypriot heritage, born in London. He studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and the Zurich University of the Arts; he previously served as chief conductor of the Tyrolean Symphony Orchestra in Innsbruck, Austria (2019–2023), and has been the principal guest conductor of the Noord Nederlands Orkest (North Netherlands Orchestra) since 2025.
In October 2022, the State Theater began an 85-billion-yen renovation and expansion project while continuing operations. The first phase is scheduled to conclude in 2027, with a full renewal planned for 2034.
