SYDNEY 〓 Sydney Symphony Orchestra Extends Contract with Principal Conductor Simone Young

The Sydney Symphony Orchestra has extended the contract of its principal conductor, Simone Young. She has been in that post since the 2022/2023 season, and this contract renewal extends her term by two years, to the end of 2026.

Young, 62, was born in Sydney. She will make her debut at the Bayreuth Festival in Germany in 2024, where she will be the first female conductor in the festival’s history to conduct “The Ring of the Nibelung.

Meanwhile, she has also been working with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra to present Wagner’s “Ring of the Nibelung” in concert style since 2023. This is progressing at the rate of one work per year, with “The Valkyrie” to appear this November.
