Austria’s Bregenz Festival has announced an overview of the 2023. Continuing from 2022, Puccini’s “Madame Butterfly” directed by Andreas Homoki will be performed on the lake stage.
According to the announcement, the 2023 music festival will be held from July 19th to August 20th. In addition to “Madame Butterfly” on the lake, Verdi’s “Ernani” will be performed at the lakeside festival theater.
The music festival was founded in 1946. A huge set is set up on the lake stage, and the opera is performed with a different work every two years, and in 2024 and 2025 it was announced that Philipp Stolzl will direct Weber’s “Der Freischütz”.
The resident orchestra is the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, and from 2022 Enrique Mazzola will be the resident conductor of the festival. The number of visitors in 2022 is expected to be about 130,000.
