2020/02/11

The 92nd Academy Awards ceremony took place on the night of February 9 local time, and Icelandic composer Hildur Guðnadóttir won the “Award for Original Music Score” on “Joker”. Thomas Newman was nominated for his 15 times on “1917” at this year, but missed Award again. If Newman scores 16 consecutive losses, he breaks out of Alex North’s record.

It is the first time that a woman has won the “Award for Original Music Score” after the “Award for Original Dramatic Score” and “Award for Original Musical or Comedy Score” were unified into the “Award for Original Music Score” in 1999. “Award for Original Musical or Comedy Score” was awarded by Rachel Portman in 1996 on “Emma” and Ann Dudley in 1997 on “The Full Monty”.

Hildur Guðnadóttir is a 37-year-old born in Reykjavik. She studied at the Reykjavik Academy of Music and the Icelandic Academy of Arts, then studied at the Berlin University of the Arts. As a disciple of Icelandic senior composer Johann Johansson, she also participated in music for films he produced, such as “Prisoners”, “Sicario”, and “Arrival”.

Last year she won the Emmy Award on the music of the drama “Chernobyl”. Earlier this year, “Joker”’s music also won the 77th Golden Globe Awards and the 2020 British Academy Awards (BAFTA Awards).
