2026/05/30

The Teatro alla Scala in Milan has announced its lineup for the 2026/2027 season. The new season marks the first under the new Music Director, MyungWhun Chung, who will conduct a new production of Verdi’s *Otello* at the opening performance on December 7th.

A notable feature of the season is the large number of directors making their debut. The renowned Barry Kosky will make his theatrical debut with Chung conducting Verdi’s *Macbeth*, while Arnaud Bernard will direct Bizet’s “Les Pêcheurs de Perles”, Daniele Menghini will direct Massenet’s *Don Quixote* (a theatrical premiere), and Marcos Morau will direct Purcell’s *Dido and Aeneas*.

Other theatrical debuts include conductors Henrik Nanasi, Francesco Ivan Ciampa, and Giulio Cilona, as well as soprano Anastasia Bartoli. Kent Nagano’s long-awaited return is also attracting attention. Riccardo Chailly, who has stepped down, will also conduct Stravinsky’s “The Rake’s Progress”.
