The Fryderyk Chopin Institute, which hosts the International Chopin Piano Competition, announced the application status for the October competition. According to the report, the number of applicants for the 18th contest exceeded 500, and nearly half of them were Asians. There are about 60 applicants from Poland, more than 100 entries from mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, more than 90 applicants from Japan and 35 from Korea.
The Chopin International Piano Competition was founded in 1927 and is known as a gateway to global pianists. The concert is held once every five years at the Philharmonic in Warsaw, the capital of Poland. Age restrictions for qualification are 16 to 30 years old. The number of applicants will be reduced to one-third in the preliminary round in April, and the 80 who have passed the preliminary round will advance to the final round from October 2 to 21. Last time, Korea’s Cho SeongJin won the championship.
