Herbert Blomstedt, the oldest conductor in the world at 98 years old, has canceled his engagement to a concert in his home country of Stockholm at the end of the month. Blomstedt fell ill while conducting the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra on the 15th and has been recuperating since canceling two subsequent concerts.

The cancellations were for concerts with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra scheduled for the 29th and 30th. He was scheduled to conduct Mahler’s Symphony No. 9. Alan Gilbert will take his place. The cancellations were made in accordance with his doctor’s advice. He is expected to return to the conductor’s podium for a concert in Bamberg, Germany in July.
