The United States horn player David Cooper has become the principal Horn player of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. After an audition at the end of 2016, Cooper took office as the Principal player of the Berlin Philharmonic, which had been vacant since 2010, but he suddenly left the company for over a year.
After graduating from the Curtis Conservatory, Cooper joined the Dallas Symphony Orchestra in 2011 as the third horn. Since 2013 he has been the principal player. After leaving the Berlin Philharmonic, he returned to the old-time Dallas Symphony Orchestra.
Cooper is invited to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra as a guest for the 2018/2019 season, and is the principal horn for concerts by music director Riccardo Muti and Bernard Haitink.
