R.I.P 〓 French composer, Michel Legrand

French composer Michel Legrand died in Paris on 26th. He was 86 years old. It was a representative of the French film music world in the latter half of the 20th century. In addition to director Jacques Demy’s work “Les Parapluies de Cherbourg”, “Les Demoiselles de Rochefort”, “The Thomas Crown Affair”, “Summer of ’42”, “Les Uns et les Autres = Francis Lai Co-creation”, “Le Mans”, “Never Say Never Again”, and more than 200 TV and movie music worked.

Born in Paris. He is raised in a music family whose father is a conductor, composer Raymond Legrand and sister is a singer Christianne Legrand. Proceed to Conservatoire de Paris, studying under Nadia Boulanger. From the 1950’s as an accompanist and arranger, he worked with Miles Davis, Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, Edith Piaf. First academy award in 1969 movie “he Thomas Crown Affair”. After that, he also won the award of “Summer of ’42” in 1972 and “Yentl” in 1984. He won an Academy Award three times, a Grammy Award five times, a Cannes Film Festival Music Award twice, and a Golden Globe Award once.
