On November 26, the Biwako Arts Foundation, which operates the Biwako Hall of the Shiga Performing Arts Center, held a press conference at the hall to announce the performance schedule for fiscal 2019.

The press conference was attended by Takashi Yamanaka, director of the foundation, and Ryusuke Numajiri, artistic director of the foundation. It was announced that the Golden Week music festival “Omi Spring,” which started last year, will be held on April 27 and 28.

The 2019 fiscal year will mark the final year of the hall’s signature production of Wagner’s four-part opera “Ring of the Nibelung. At the end of the fiscal year, “Twilight of the Gods” will be performed in March 2020.

The other opera to be produced is Poulenc’s “The Voice. Based on Jean Cocteau’s play, it is a one-act work with only one character, performed by soprano Ryoko Sunagawa. The performance was presented in concert style and directed by Keiichi Nakamura, and was included in the program of “Omi Spring”.

It was also announced that Puccini’s opera “Turandot” will be performed in July in cooperation with the New National Theatre, Tokyo.

Turandot” will be performed throughout Japan as part of the “Opera Summer Festival 2019-20 Japan ↔ Tokyo ↔ World,” an event related to the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics. Kazushi Ono will conduct and the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra will be in the pit. The director is Alex Olier.

It was also announced that no performances will be held from August 19 to December 20, 2019, due to major repair work in the Main and Middle Halls.
