The Deutsche Oper am Rhein has announced the appointment of German-American conductor Evan Rogister as General Music Director. His five-year term begins in August 2027.
Vitali Alekseenok, a Belarusian conductor, succeeded Axel Kober as General Music Director of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in 2024 but will step down after the 2026/2027 season. Starting with the new season, the leadership will be completely overhauled, with Ina Karr taking over as General Director and the arrival of Rogister.
Rogister is a 46-year-old native of Durham, North Carolina. After studying at the Juilliard School and serving as a *Kapellmeister* at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, he held the position of Principal Conductor at the Washington National Opera from 2018 to 2025.
He is already making guest appearances at major opera houses, such as the Metropolitan Opera in New York, and this summer he will conduct Mozart’s *Die Entführung aus dem Serail* at the Glyndebourne Festival in the UK.
