The Lucerne Theatre in Switzerland has extended the contract of British conductor Jonathan Bloxham, who serves as its music director. Bloxham has held the position since the 2023/2024 season, and this renewal extends his tenure through the end of the 2028/2029 season.
Born near Newcastle, Bloxham studied the cello at the Yehudi Menuhin School, the Royal Academy of Music, and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, establishing a career as a soloist. He subsequently studied conducting under mentors including Paavo Järvi, and launched his career in earnest in 2016 by serving as assistant to Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla at the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
Since 2022, he has served as Permanent Conductor and Artistic Advisor of the London Mozart Players, and since 2024, as Chief Conductor of the Northwest German Philharmonic (Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie), based in Herford, Germany.
