The Glasgow-based BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra has announced the appointment of Dutch conductor Antony Hermus as its next chief conductor. He will succeed Ryan Wigglesworth—who has held the position since 2022—starting in the 2027/2028 season.

Helms is a 53-year-old native of Tilburg, in the central-western Netherlands. While studying music at the Tilburg Conservatory, he also earned a degree in information science from the Catholic University of Brabant.

He subsequently served as General Music Director of the Anhaltisches Theater in Dessau, Germany (2009–2015), and has been the Chief Conductor of the Belgian National Orchestra since the 2022/2023 season; he is scheduled to step down at the end of the 2026/2027 season.
