VIENNA 〓 Tugan Sokhiev will conduct the New Year’s Concert in 2027

The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra announced on January 1st that Tugan Sokhiev will conduct its New Year’s Concert on January 1, 2027. This will be his first appearance conducting the New Year’s Concert.

Sohiev, 48, was born in Vladikavkaz, North Ossetia, in the former Soviet Union. He studied conducting at the St. Petersburg Conservatory under Ilya Musin and Yuri Temirkanov.

He has served as Music Director of the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse in France (2008-2022), Chief Conductor of the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin (2012-2016), and Music Director of the Bolshoi Theatre (2014-2022).

He made his debut with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in 2009, replacing Zubin Mehta for a regular concert. In June 2025, he will conduct the “Summer Night Concert” at Schönbrunn Palace.
