On the evening of September 6, the Odessa Philharmonic Orchestra of Ukraine appeared at the Berlin Music Festival(Musikfest Berlin) under the baton of Hubert Earle, Music Director and Chief Conductor since 1991.
The orchestra performed works by Ukrainian composers Miroslav Skoryk, Mykola Lysenko, and Alemdar Karamanov, as well as Sibelius’ Symphony No. 2, to rapturous applause.
The Odessa Philharmonic Orchestra, which was hastily invited to Ukraine in response to the Russian invasion of the country, was founded in 1937 and is one of Ukraine’s leading orchestras.
During the former Soviet era, such conductors as Yuri Temirkanov, Kurt Sanderling, Arvid Jansons, and Mariss Jansons served as chief conductors.
The orchestra has continued to perform throughout the war, giving concerts in the Moldovan capital of Kishinau before Berlin.
The concert at the Philharmonie, the festival’s main venue, was streamed live on the Berlin Philharmonic’s streaming channel, Digital Concert Hall.
