DRESDEN 〓 The Saxon State Opera has announced the performance line-up for its new 2022/2023 season

2022/05/22

Saxony State Opera has announced its performance line-up for the 2022/2023 season. There are seven new productions, including concert-style productions. The world premiere of Angus Lee’s “chasing waterfalls” will open the season.

The revival’s production of Wagner’s “Der Ring des Nibelungen” by Christian Thielemann will also make a splash: the first series of performances will take place from 27 January to 1 February 2023, followed by a second performance from 5 to 10 February.

In concert, the Staatskapelle Dresden (Opera Orchestra) will also hold its own ‘Richard Strauss Days’ festival during Easter 2023, following the Staatskapelle Dresden’s withdrawal as resident orchestra of the Salzburg Easter Festival as of 2022.

The Staatskapelle Dresden will be led by Thielemann in the ‘Mahler Festival’ in May 2023, organised by the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, as well as a German tour to Mainz and Munich.

The concert series will feature regular guest appearances by Principal Guest Conductor MyungWhun Chung and other regulars, including Honorary Conductor Herbert Blomstedt. In addition to conducting two concerts, Chung will also tour South Korea to mark his 70th birthday.
