TAIPEI 〓 Eliahu Inbal has extended his contract with the Taipei Symphony Orchestra

Conductor Eliahu Inbal has extended his contract with the Taipei Symphony Orchestra, where he serves as principal conductor. Inbal has been in his position since 2018, and this contract renewal extends his term by three years, to July 2025.

Inbal was born in Jerusalem in 1936 and is 86 years old. He is currently a British citizen. He studied at the Conservatoire de Paris and won the “Guido Cantelli International Competition” in 1964, and in 1974 he became the Music Director of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, a position he held until his departure in 1990, a golden era.

He then served as Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Orchestre del Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Italy (1984-89), the Berlin Symphony Orchestra (2001-2006), the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra (2009-2012), and the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra (2008-2014). The Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra presented him with the title of Conductor Laureate in 2014.

Taipei City has three orchestras: the National Symphony Orchestra(Taiwan Philharmonic), the Taipei Symphony Orchestra(Taipei City Symphony Orchestra), and the Evergreen Orchestra(Chang Rong Symphony Orchestra), the Taipei Municipal Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1969.

Last November, the first live recording by Inbal and Taipei Symphony Orchestra, “Inbal in Taipei – Beethoven’s Symphonies No. 6 and No. 7,” was released and distributed on major music distribution platforms.
