The city of Hamburg, Germany, embarks on the production of an opera depicting the half-life of Chancellor Angela Merkel, who is associated with the city. Mayor Peter Tschentscher has announced that he will contribute 12 million euros from the city’s cultural budget.
The composer has not been announced, but the opera is said to be the eighth Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, portraying her success in the economic crisis, refugee issues and the Corona disaster as “the most powerful woman in the world”.
Chancellor Merkel was born on July 17, 1954 in Hamburg. However, her father Horst Kasner, a Protestant minister, moved to East Germany, and she moved to Kwitzou (now Berlemburg) a few weeks after she was born.
Later, her family moved to Temprin, near Berlin, and when she graduated from high school, she studied physics at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig.
According to the announcement, the opera is tentatively titled “Chancellor of the Heart” and is mainly portrayed after entering the political path.
The opera will perform not only in Hamburg, but also in an outdoor performance in Temprin and at a summer music festival in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
The Chancellor loves opera, going to the Bayreuth Festival every year, and she is very pleased that she was selected as the subject of the opera.
