The Leeds International Piano Competition in the United Kingdom announced the qualifiers on the 25th. According to the announcement, the number of applicants in 2021 was 264, an increase of 43% compared to the previous 2018. There are 63 passers from 28 countries.
After this, the second round will be held by video screening. After the semi-finals, the finals will be held in September with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Andrew Manze.
The competition was founded in 1961 by Fanny Waterman, who died at the end of last year. Since the first competition was held in 1963, it has been held once every three years. The competition has produced pianists such as Radu Lupu, Murray Perahia, Andras Schiff, Mitsuko Uchida and Lars Vogt.
