BERLIN 〓 German opera magazine “Opernwelt” announces “Of the Year”

The German opera magazine “Opernwelt” announced this year’s “Of the Year”. “Of the Year” has been selected by 50 people from Europe and US music critics and reporters. This time, the Salzburg Festival’s “Salome” production is highly evaluated, and it got “Production”, “Director” and “Singer”. “Salome” was premiered at the 2018 Festival and was also performed at the 2019 Festival.

This year’s “conductor” is Joana Mallwitz, a German female conductor. 33 years old born in Hildesheim. She studied at Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media, and became the GMD (General Music Director) of Erfurt Theater at the age of 27 in the 2014/2015 season. Since 2018/2019, she has been the GMD for the Nuremberg State Theater. she conducted Wagner’s “Lohengrin” and Prokofiev’s “War and Peace” at her theater, and was recognized for its success. 　　※ Lithuanian soprano singer. Singing Salome in the Salzburg Festival’s “Salome”, 24 people voted to her(the highest ever vote).

［Young Artist］Lise Davidsen
　　※ Norwegian soprano singer.

［Opera House］Opéra national du Rhin

［Orchestra］Kirill Petrenko & Orchestra of the Bavarian State Opera
　　※ For the sixth time in a row and for the eighth time overall.

［Chorus］Chorus of the Stuttgart State Opera
　　※ For the twelfth time.

［Production］Salzburg Festival “Salome”
　　※ Directed by Romeo Castellucci, premiered at the 2018 Festival.

　　※ For the first time. She received high acclaim for the costumes of Mozart’s “Magic Flute” at the Salzburg Festival and Beato Fuller’s “Violet Snow” at the Berlin State Opera.

［Premiere］Kurtág György’s Opera“Fin de partie”
　　※ 92-year-old Hungarian composer Kurtág’s first opera, premiered at the Teatro alla Scala in November 2018.

［Rediscovery］Albéric Magnard’s Opera“Guercœur”
　　※ In June 2019, It performed again at the Osnabrück Theater in Germany. Magnard (1865-1914) is a French composer. “Guercœur” was created in 1901.
