Hamamatsu City will restart the new piano academy from FY 2019. Since FY 1995, the city welcomed pianist Hiroko Nakamura for music director, holding a “Hamamatsu International Piano Academy” annually by prominent lecturers. Every Year, students from all over the world have participated. In response to the death of Nakamura, the Academy had finished in FY 2016, but Hamamatsu City, which advocates “City of Music”, judges that human resource development is indispensable. A project cost of 13 million yen was included in the initial FY 2019 budget announced on July 7.

In the “New Academy” to restart, four lecturers will teach in addition to Ogawa Noriko of the pianist who will serve as the judge chairman of the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition. In addition to “Master Class” for performers aiming for competitions and others, a new lecture for amateur musicians is opened for Academy. Events such as “citizen piano marathon” where citizens participate in the performance are also planned.
