BELFAST 〓 Ulster Orchestra has named Daniele Rustioni as Principal conductor

Ulster Orchestra has named Daniele Rustioni to succeed Rafael Payare as Principal conductor in September. The Ulster Orchestra is the only professional orchestra in Northern Ireland, and is based in the capital Belfast.

Rustioni is 35 years old born in Milan. After studying at the local Verdi Conservatory, studied under Gianluigi Gelmetti at Siena’s Chiziana Conservatory. After that, he studied with Royal Opera in London led by Antonio Pappano.

From 2008 to 2010 he served as Principal guest conductor of the Mikhailovsky Theater of St. Petersburg in Russia, the chief conductor of the Tuscan Orchestra from 2014, and the Principal conductor of the French National Lyon Opera from the 2017/18 season.
