Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz will welcome British conductor Michael Francis(42) as the Principal conductor. Term of office is from 2019/2020 season. Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz is an orchestra based in Ludwigshafen am Rhein. In the past Conductor there are Christoph Eschenbach, Bernhard Klee, Theodor Guschlbauer, Leif Segerstam.

Francis joined the London Symphony Orchestra as a contrabass player in 2003 after graduating from Cardiff Conservatory. During the 2006 Lithuania Tour, he was turned to a conductor as a result of being given the rehearsal of Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 4. In 2007, he served as a substitute for Valery Gergiev who plunged down due to illness 12 hours before the concert and consolidated his evaluation as a conductor.

He was the principal conductor of the Swedish Nord Schoping Symphony Orchestra from 2012 to 2016 and has served as the music director of the Florida Orchestra of the United States since 2015/2016 season.
