VIENNA 〓 Argerich is an honorary member of Konzerthaus

Wiener Konzerthaus announced on February 14 that pianist Martha Argerich became a new honorary member. Argerich was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1941. In 1955, she moved to Vienna with a family (a father appointed diplomat, a mother appointed as Embassy staff) and studied under Friedrich Gulda. Later, in 1957 she won the “Bezoni International Piano Competition”. In 1965 she won the “Chopin International Piano Competition” and gained a lot of attention.

It was June 6, 1959 that Argerich played for the first time at Konzerthaus. At this time, she performed with the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra. Last season co-starring with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra which has long refused co-starring so far has been realized. The stage was said to have appeared to the Konzerthaus for the 19th time. The Konzerthaus is a building completed in 1913, one of the typical buildings of the time of the architectural style Jugendstil. Richard Strauss wrote the “Festival Prelude” for opening.
