Zaha Hadid Architects’ innovative plan was chosen as a concert hall competition newly constructed by Sverdlovsk state in the central part of Russia. It is a hall built in the state capital Yekaterinburg(A population of over 1.45 million), it is used for the hall dedicated to the orchestra concert. Zaha Hadid (1950 – 2016) is from Baghdad, Iraq, an architect based in England. Her plan was selected at the competition over the Japanese New National Stadium held in 2012, but as the policy of the Japanese government changed, another competition will be held and another design will be adopted.

In selection, a spokeswoman said, “Sound, like light, spreads in the form of waves. The wavy structure of the building, the curved roof and flowing interiors of our concert hall, thus, are designed to reflect the unity of light and sound, architecture and music. Such a busy city as Yekaterinburg needs a secluded space where everyone could enjoy the masterpieces of symphonic music in silence. To do this, our “waves” can be concluded in a single space of performers and listeners, turning each view into an object of joint creativity.”
