The Toronto Symphony Orchestra announced that Gustavo Gimeno will be greeted by the music director from the 2020/21 season. He succeeded Peter Oundjian who has led the orchestra since 2004.

Gimeno was 42 years old, born in Valencia, Spain in 1976. After learning in Spain, he was appointed Principal Percussionist of Amsterdam’s Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.

After that he studied conducting at the Amsterdam Conservatory, and served as vice conductor of Mariss Jansons, Claudio Abbado, Bernard Haitink, etc. Since 2015 he has been chief conductor of the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra.
