AIX-EN-PROVENCE 〓 Aix-en-Provence Festival announced the core music program of 2019

The southern France Aix-en-Provence Music Festival (Festival International d’Art Lyrique d’Aix-en-Provence), which began on July 3, announced the core music program of 2019 as early as possible. The music festival has just celebrated Pierre Audi, who retired from the artistic director of the Dutch National Opera this year, as general director.

In the first year, his lineup was attracting attention. Audi was a director born in Beirut, Lebanon in 1957. He moved from Beirut to Paris, moved to Britain at the age of 17, and was studying at Oxford University.

In 1979 he founded the Almeida Theater in Islington, London and has worked on many Production. From 1988 he served as artistic director of the Dutch National Opera (-2018). Since 2005 he has been an art director of the Netherlands Festival (-2014), and since 2015 he also served concurrently as an artistic director of Park Avenue Almony in New York.

The outline of the 2019 music festival is as follows.

Mozart “Requiem”
= Production of Romeo Castellucci. Performance by Rafael Pision and the ensemble and choir of “Pygmalion” led by him.


Puccini “Tosca”
= Daniele Rustoni will perform with the Lyon national opera. Directed by Christophe Honore.


Weill “Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny”
= Esa-Pekka Salonen leads the Philharmonia Orchestra from London, with “Pygmalion” choir. Direction of Ivo van Hoven.


Rihm “Jacob Lenz = Crazy Lenz”
= Opera “Jacob Lenz” is the second interior opera of Wolfgang Rihm (1952 -) , this time premiered in France. The performance is Ensemble Modern led by Ingo Metzmacher. Directed by Andrea Breth.


Maor “The Sleeping Thousand”
= This is the world premiere. “The Sleeping Thousand” is a Hebrew opera on the conflict between Israel and Palestine by Israeli composer Adam Maor (1983-). with a libretto by Yonatan Levy.
