The Itria Valley Festival(Festival della Valle d’Itria)in Martina Franca, Italy, has announced its performance lineup for 2024. The festival, under the musical direction of conductor Fabio Luisi, is celebrating its 50th anniversary and will be held from July 17 to August 6.
According to the announcement, three operas will be performed: Bellini’s “Norma,” Nino Rota’s “Aladdin and the Magic Lamp,” and Handel’s “Ariodante.
There will also be a performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, celebrating the 200th anniversary of its premiere, with Riccardo Frizza conducting the Orchestra and Chorus of the Petruzzelli Theater in Bari.
Opening the program is the newly produced “Norma,” conducted by Fabio Luisi. Casa Ricordi’s critical edition will be performed, with direction by Nicolas Raab. The cast includes Jaclyn Wagner as Norma, Valentina Farcas as Adalgisa, Iram Hernandez as Pollione, and Simon Lim as Oroveso.
Meanwhile, Rota’s “Aladdin and the Magic Lamp” will be directed by Rita Cosentino. Francesco Lanzillotta will conduct the Teatro Petruzzelli Orchestra. Also, “Ariodante” will be directed by Torsten Fischer. Federico Maria Sardelli will conduct his own ensemble, Modo Antiquo.
