Around the Music Festival

The Aix-en-Provence Music Festival in France has announced its 2026 performance lineup. It will take place from July 2nd to 21st.

The biggest buzz is Klaus Mäkela’s festival debut with the Orchestre de Paris, where he serves as music director. He will conduct Richard Strauss’s 《Die Frau ohne Schatten》 and Bartók’s 《Bluebeard’s Castle》.

New opera productions are planned, including Mozart’s 《The Magic Flute》, 《Die Frau ohne Schatten》, Henze’s 《El Cimarron》, and Francesco Filidei’s 《Accabadora》, as well as concert performances of Verdi’s 《The Sicilian Vespers》 and 《Bluebeard’s Castle》, and a performance of Mozart’s Requiem, directed by Romeo Castellucci in 2019.

The festival’s artistic director, Pierre Audi, passed away suddenly this May, and he has been succeeded by American director Ted Huffman.
