Kornilios Viktor Michailidis from Greece won first prize at the Tokyo International Conducting Competition, which has been renamed and is making a fresh start. Riley Holden Court-Wood from the UK came second, and Ayano Yoshizaki from Japan came third.

The competition was established in 1967 by the Min-On Concert Association as the “Min-On Competition” and has been held every three years. In 1988, it was renamed the “Tokyo International Music Competition”, and this year, on the occasion of its 20th anniversary, it was renamed again. It is known as an international competition that has been held continuously in Asia for many years, and it has produced many internationally active conductors.

This year, 291 people applied, 18 of whom advanced to the preliminary round, and the final was contested by four people, including the prize-winner Hiroki Okazaki.

The head judge was Tadaaki Otaka, and the other judges included conductors such as Junichi Hirokami, Okko Kamu, Tatsuya Shimono, Hubert Soudant, and Ken Takaseki, as well as Rainer Honeck, who is the concertmaster of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.
