Pablo Heras-Casado of Spain has been chosen as the conductor of the new “Ring of the Nibelung” at the Bayreuth Festival in Germany, which will begin performances in 2028. Heras-Casado made his Festival debut last summer conducting “Parsifal” and continues to make his debut at the podium this year.

General director Katharina Wagner gave an interview to the German weekly magazine “Spiegel,” and it has not yet been revealed who will continue to direct the production. In response to the interview, Katharina said that Christian Thielemann, who resigned as music director four years ago, will return to the festival to conduct “Parsifal” in 2027.

Pablo Heras-Casado was born in Granada and is 46 years old. After serving as assistant conductor of the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Opéra National de Paris, he made his debuts with the Berlin Philharmonic and Chicago Symphony Orchestra in 2011 and the Vienna Philharmonic in 2016.

2018 and 2019, he will serve as artistic director of the Granada International Festival in 2019. He conducts “Ring of the Nibelung” at Madrid’s Teatro Real, which began performances in 2019.
