Jakub Hrůša has extended his contract with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, where he has served as principal conductor since 2016. The contract renewal extends his tenure until 2029. Hrůša is the fifth principal conductor in the 77-year history of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, and this past November he was awarded the Bavarian Culture Prize for his contributions to the orchestra.

He is 42 years old and was born in 1981 in Brno, Czech Republic. He studied conducting at the Prague Conservatory with Jiří Bělohlávek and Radomir Elíska, and in 2008 succeeded Bělohlávek as Music Director and Chief Conductor of the Prague Philharmonia. In 2010, he became the youngest conductor of the opening concert of the Prague Spring Festival.

He is currently Principal Guest Conductor of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra and the Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Italy. He is also set to become the seventh Music Director of the Royal Opera House in the United Kingdom beginning with the 2025/2026 season.
