The Salzburg Easter Music Festival has announced its outline. According to the announcement, the 2025 festival will be held from April 12 to 21. The festival will open with Mussorgsky’s “Khovanshchina,” with a new production by British director Simon McBurney.
Starting in 2023, the festival will invite a different orchestra as resident orchestra each year, with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra led by Esa-Pekka Salonen appearing in 2025.
In addition to the operas, the festival will present Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 “Resurrection” under the direction of Salonen and Mendelssohn’s “Elijah” under the direction of Maxim Emelyanychev.
Also participating in 2025 will be the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and the Mozarteum Orchestra. The Mahler Chamber Orchestra will be conducted by Gianandrea Noseda, who will conduct a program combining Grieg’s “Peer Gynt” Suite, Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto with Augustin Harderich as soloist, and Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 9.
Meanwhile, conducting the Mozarteum Orchestra will be young Norwegian Tabita Berglund in her festival debut, conducting a gala concert of opera. Sondra Radvanovsky and Simon Keenlyside will perform.
