The next Music Director of the Warsaw State Philharmonic Orchestra (Filharmonia Narodowa w Warszawie) is Krzysztof Urbański, who will succeed Andrey Boreyko, who has been in his position since the 2019/2020 season. . Urbański will start working in the 2023/2024 season.
Urbański is 41 years old and was born in 1982 in Pavjanice, Poland. After attending a local music school, he went on to the Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, where he studied conducting with Antoni Vito. In 2007, after graduation, he won the first prize in the conducting category at the 62nd Prague Spring International Music Competition.
Since then, he has served as Chief Conductor of the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra in Norway (-2017) and Music Director of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra in the United States (-2021). He will also serve as Chief Conductor of the Bern Symphony Orchestra in Switzerland beginning in the 2024/2025 season.
