The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra announced on January 1 that Riccardo Muti will conduct the New Year’s Day concert next year (2025) on New Year’s Day. Next year is the landmark bicentennial of Johann Strauss’s birth. Muti will be conducting for the seventh time after 1993, 1997, 2000, 2004, 2018 and 2021.

Muti’s relationship with the Vienna Philharmonic runs deep: since his debut in 1971, he has appeared on the podium more than 500 times for subscription concerts and opera performances, and in 2011 he was named an honorary member. In May 2024, he will conduct a concert commemorating the 200th anniversary of the premiere of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony.
