NICE 〓 Lionel Branguier will be Principal Conductor of the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra

The Nice Philharmonic Orchestra has announced the promotion of Lionel Bringuier, a native of Nice and the orchestra’s assistant conductor, to the position of chief conductor. Daniele Callegari is stepping down after less than two years in office.

Bringuier, 37, was born into a musical family in Nice. He studied cello and conducting at Nice and Paris, and won the “Besançon International Competition for Young Conductors” in 2005. He began his conducting career as assistant conductor of the Orchestre de Paris.

He has since served as Music Director of the Symphony Orchestra of Castilla y Leon in Spain (2009-2012) and Chief Conductor and Music Director of the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich (2014-2018).
