The Boston Symphony Orchestra announced on November 3 that Andris Nelsons, the orchestra’s music director, has earned a black belt in taekwondo, the national sport of Korea.

Nelsons began practicing taekwondo as a teenager; he stopped when he was 20 years old due to a broken bone. It was not until 2016 that he resumed, and he has rapidly improved his skills over the past couple of years.
