Denver-based Colorado Symphony of the United States has announced that it will welcome Peter Oundjian as Principal Conductor. The chief conductor has been vacant since Brett Mitchell retired on 2020/2021. It is said that the activity will start immediately.
Eunjan is 66 years old from Canada. He started playing the violin at the age of seven, studied at the Royal College of Music in London, and studied under Ivan Galamian, Dorothy Delay, and Itzhak Perlman at the Juilliard School in New York.
After that, he joined the Tokyo Quartet in 1981. He was the first violinist until 1995, when he was forced to retire from his career as a performer due to tenosynovitis.
After that, he became a conductor. He was Artistic Director of Amsterdam Sinfonietta from 1998 to 2003, then Music Director of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra of Canada in 2004, and remained until the 2019/2020 season.
