HOUSTON 〓 Houston Symphony has announced Juraj Valčuha as its next Music Director

The Houston Symphony Orchestra of the United States has announced that it will welcome Slovak conductor Juraj Valčuha as the next music director. He succeeded Andres Orozco-Estrada, who had been in charge since 2014, and his term of office is from the 2022/2023 season.

Valčuha was born in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, and is 45 years old. After studying at the Bratislava Conservatory, he studied abroad at the St. Petersburg Conservatory in Russia in 1995 and received the teaching of Ilya Musin.

His Houston Symphony debuted in 2011. Valčujah has been the Principal Conductor of the RAI National Symphony Orchestra based in Turin (2009-2016) and has been the Music Director of the San Carlo Theater in Naples since 2016.
