The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra has extended its contract with music director Nathalie Stutzmann. Stutzmann took up her post in the 2022/2023 season, and this contract renewal extends her term by three years, until the end of the 2028/2029 season.

Stutzmann is 60 years old and was born in Suresnes, France. She entered the world of singing under the guidance of her mother, a soprano singer.

After graduating from the Conservatoire de Nancy, she continued her studies at the school affiliated with the Paris Opera. She won the Bertelsmann International Singing Competition in 1988 and subsequently became an internationally active contralto.

She began her conducting career in 2008. From 2018 she served as Principal Conductor of the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra in Norway (until 2023), and also served as Principal Guest Conductor of the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra in Ireland (2017-2020) and the Philadelphia Orchestra(2021-2024).

She will make her New York Metropolitan Opera debut in 2023 conducting Mozart’s Don Giovanni and The Magic Flute, and that summer she will also make her debut at Germany’s Bayreuth Festival conducting Wagner’s Tannhäuser, where she will return in 2024.
