The Hamamatsu International Piano Competition announced on May 27th that the 11th Competition scheduled for November will be cancelled. The next competition will be held in November 2024, three years later. By the end of March this year, more than 450 pianists had applied for the competition.

The reason for the cancellation is as follows. Due to strict travel restrictions imposed by the Japanese government to prevent the spread of new coronavirus infections. Another major obstacle was that even those who were allowed to enter Japan were obliged to wait for 14 days after entering Japan.
